Tim Delworth Receives 2024 Gerald Krockover Outstanding Favorite Faculty Award

04-16-2024

Tim Delworth, senior lecturer in the Department of Mathematics, received the 2024 Dr. Gerald Krockover Outstanding Favorite Faculty Award presented by the Purdue University Residences and the office of Residential Academic Initiatives.

The award recognizes a faculty member who has a positive impact on the student experience through academics, research, and campus/community involvement. Nominations for the award come from the 16,000 students living in University Residences who are asked to identify the faculty “who have made a difference in the lives of their students.”

Tim teaches quantitative reasoning and applied calculus and serves as Senior Faculty Fellow in Tarkington Hall. These comments from his nominators clearly demonstrate how he creates the type of learning experiences that help students succeed.

  • (Tim Delworth) is an amazing professor and is the only reason I passed pre-calc. I also CHOSE a 7:30 math class just so I could have him for calculus. He is very obviously concerned about each of his students and encourages our best learning.
  • Always motivates his students for getting up on time, encourages students to have an organized routine, helps students with any homework questions in class. Only professor I’ve had to ever make so much time for office hours and this is extremely important for success. Has notes for every lesson ready and readable for students to look back at for guidance. Tim Delworth has been the best professor I’ve had at Purdue, makes math less difficult to understand and always makes time for his students because he wants to see us succeed. Always makes class fun and interesting even if it’s 7:30 in the morning. I think many professors can learn from him as making time for students and seeing them successful should be an important goal for all teachers.
  • Mr. Delworth's lectures were always interesting because he is so funny and makes class time worthwhile. Math has never been my strongest subject, and I always have lots of questions to ask regarding the course. But Mr. Delworth always hosted lots of office hours, allowing for students to get lots of help and ask questions. Whenever I went into his office hours, there were always tons of students there who were visiting because he formed such strong relationships with his students and everyone loved him! He also provided his students with tons of resources to be successful.
  • His classes are legitimately the most "fun" math classes I've ever had. Even so they are equally as informative and helpful. He makes each student very aware of his office hours and strongly encourages everyone to come to his office hours (on top of that his office hours are pretty open).
  • Always there for his students, makes us laugh, and teaches us the content we need to know.
  • Great guy. Always there for his students, wants us to succeed while having fun.

Congratulations, Tim, on this prestigious recognition of your excellent teaching and mentorship.
