Textbook: Vector Calculus (5th or 6th Edition), by Jerrold E. Marsden and Anthony Tromba, on reserve in the math library. This is a good book but too expensive. I recommend a used copy for $10. The two editions are virtually identical and I won't be using the book to assign homework. We will cover most of the material in the book: the geometry of Euclidean space, differentiation of functions of several real variables, higher-order derivatives, maxima and minima, vector-valued functions and their derivatives, double and triple integrals, change of variables, integrals over curves and surfaces, and the integral theorems of vector analysis. Another good book is Calculus of Several Variables by Robert T. Seeley.
Grading is based on
Homework assignments until Homework 7 are due in class on Wednesdays, or in MATH 602 by 12:30 pm. Starting with Homework 8 they are due by email on Wednesdays, by 12:30pm. They may be handed in up to one week late for half credit. Collaboration is encouraged, but you must write up your homework on your own. Here are the assignments:
