Lab 06 Expectations

3 plots required: best estimate for y1, best estimate for y2, pplane plot from #4.

  1. Determine which of the equations forms a better model and why.
  2. Determine the best approximate values of the parameters (k, p, and q) used to best fit the two sets of observed data (y1 and y2). Include the plots for the best estimate for y1 and the best estimate for y2.
  3. How well does the better equation (determined in Problem 1) with chosen parameters agree with the data?
  4. Using the parameters found for y2 in #3, plot the system in pplane. According to the graph, will the building collapse under strong natural disasters?

This might seem short, but the difficult part is setting up the m-file and testing lots of cases to find the correct parameters. To find the best estimates for the data, the max of the curves should match the max of the data points.

Make sure you are consistent with your answers throughout the lab. That is, if you choose model B as the best model, make sure it is clear throughout the lab solution.
