Cushman receives InterPore Award

John Cushman, Distinguished University Professor of Atmospheric Sciences and Professor of Mathematics, was awarded the Procter & Gamble Award for Porous Media Research 2011. The award was given in recognition of outstanding contributions to topics related to swelling porous media, very thin porous media, and behavior at interfaces. It was presented in late March during the InterPore Conference in Bordeaux, France.

Professor Cushman was also honored with a special session at the 2011 Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) Conference on Mathematical & Computational Issues in the Geosciences on March 21-24 in Long Beach, California. Presentations spanned the topics of Cushman's research career and focused on physics of fluids in porous media over time, scales ranging from picoseconds to years, and spatial scales ranging from angstroms to miles.

Cushman was named a GSA Fellow in 2010, a Purdue distinguished professor in 2005, an American Geophysical Union Fellow in 1996, a recipient of the Purdue Herbert Newby McCoy Award in 1995, and a Soil Science Society of America Fellow in 1990.
