Undergrads Search for Solutions

Several undergraduates are engaged in research projects this summer under the direction of mathematics faculty mentors.
Prof. Edray Goins is working with students Hongshan Li, Jonathan Blair, and Anika Rounds. Abi Chandra Komanduru and David Knott are working under the supervision of Prof. Uli Walther. Prof. Svitlana Mayboroda and Golomb Assistant Prof. Ariel Barton are running a research project with undergraduate Landon Lehman.
Brandon Patterson, who worked on a project in summer 2010 with Prof. Mayboroda, presented their joint work at the Purdue SIAM student chapter's Computational Science and Engineering Student Conference (CSESC), for which he won the conference's Undergraduate Presentation Award.
This year's summer undergrad researchers are supported as REUs (Research Experience for Undergraduates) with funding provided by a gift from mathematics alum Andy Zoltners. In addition, a portion of Jonathan Blair's support comes from the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation. The Department is very pleased to have these resources to support and encourage aspiring mathematicians.
