Purdue Students win Poster Awards at Conference for African-American Mathematicians
07-06-2012
The 18th annual Conference for African-American Researchers in the Mathematical Sciences, better known as CAARMS, was held at Princeton University June 27-30, 2012. The conference provides a forum for underrepresented minority researchers in the mathematical sciences to network and discover research interests across different mathematical disciplines. While established researchers give hour-long invited talks, graduate students and undergraduate students are encouraged to present posters on their work. A friendly competition among the poster presenters, named after the late Angela E. Grant of Northwestern University, provides awards in five categories: Theory, Algorithm, Presentation, Modeling, and Undergraduate Research. Purdue graduate students won two of the five awards this year. Cristian W. Potter, an incoming student in statistics, won the category for Presentation; Sean Colbert-Kelly, an outgoing student in mathematics, won the category for Modeling.
CAARMS was held at Purdue during the summer 2003, where it was organized by Rodrigo Bañuelos and Johnny Brown.
