Two long-term staff members retired recently. Both individuals contributed to the very high level of efficiency and economy of mathematics instruction at Purdue. They will be missed greatly.
Peter Cook — During his 40 years in the Mathematics Department, Peter served as schedule deputy and math instructor, providing invaluable and patient assistance to countless counselors, students, faculty, and staff . In recent years, he was active in the development of technology in the teaching of calculus courses, particularly the development of an online homework system.
Dr. Rita Saerens — Rita served as assistant to various department heads from 1991 to 2012 and taught mathematics. The department's teaching operation relied heavily on the infrastructure she provided by overseeing every aspect of mathematics teaching carried out by Teaching Assistants and Lecturers. She also assisted department heads and associate heads through the years by working on a variety of special projects.
