Simons Fellowships Announced
03-20-2012
Purdue mathematics professors Brad Lucier and Bernd Ulrich are the recipients of 2012 Simons Fellowships.
The Simons Foundation gave the award to 77 outstanding mathematicians and theoretical physicists for 2012, the inaugural year of the program. This fellowship program extends academic leaves from one term to a full year, enabling recipients to focus solely on research for the long periods often necessary for significant advances.
Professor Lucier will spend 2012-13 at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA, where he will continue his research on image processing. Professor Ulrich will be in residence at the Mathematical Science Research Institute (MSRI) in Berkeley, CA during its year-long program in commutative algebra.
