Jie Shen gives Public Lecture
04-15-2013
Mathematics professor Jie Shen presented an overview of his research at a public lecture on Thursday, May 2, 3:30-4:30 p.m. in LWSN 1142. The talk was sponsored by the College of Science, which named Professor Shen and three other faculty in the college as inaugural recipients of College of Science Research Awards. Dean Jeffrey Roberts presented the award to Professor Shen following the talk.
Title: Phase-field models and simulations for multiphase complex fluids
Abstract: I shall present some recent work on phase-field models and simulations for multiphase complex fluids. Particular attention will be paid to develop models which are valid for problems with large density ratios and obey an energy dissipation law. I shall present efficient and accurate numerical schemes for solving the coupled nonlinear system for the multiphase complex fluid. I'll also provide ample numerical results which not only demonstrate the effectiveness of the numerical schemes, but also validate the flexibility and robustness of the phase-field models.
