Prof. McClure receives notice for pedagogical approach

10-06-2015

James McClureProf. James McClure has received notice for his pedagogical approach in the October 2015 edition of Notices of the American Mathematical Society.  The article Doceamus: Teaching University Mathematics: One Mathematician's Contribution authored by Brooke Max, a doctoral student in mathematics education, and Prof. Jill Newton, associate professor of mathematics education at Purdue, discusses how McClure's teaching approach aids in knowledge acquisition for students and future teachers of mathematics.

Citing McClure's own work on mathematical education as well as the experiences of students in his classroom the authors discuss how McClure's pedagogical practices relate to Domains of Mathematical Knowledge for Teaching, a concept discussed by D. L. Ball, M. H. Thames, and G. Phelps in the Journal of Teacher Education article "Content knowledge for teaching: What makes it special?"

Congratulations to Prof. McClure for this recognition of your work in furthering mathematics education.
