Trevor Wooley named Simons Fellow in Mathematics

03-28-2025

The Simons Foundation’s Mathematics and Physical Sciences (MPS) division has named Trevor Wooley, a 2025 Simons Fellows in Mathematics. Wooley is the Andris A. Zoltners Distinguished Professor of Mathematics at Purdue University.

Wooley’s research interests include Analytic Number Theory and Harmonic Analysis, Automorphic Forms, Lie Groups, Number Theory, Representation Theory. He teaches Introduction to Number Theory (Math 495/595). He serves on the editorial boards for Mathematika and the Online Journal of Analytical Combinatorics. He will soon be giving a Hovde Distinguished Lecture for the Purdue College of Science on April 8, 2025 titled, “The Music of Diophantine Equations — Harmony or Cacophony?”

The Mathematics and Physical Sciences (MPS) division, established in 2010, supports research in mathematics, theoretical physics and theoretical computer science, by providing funding for individuals, institutions, and science infrastructure. The Simons Foundation’s mission is to advance the frontiers of research in mathematics and the basic sciences. They sponsor a range of programs that aim to promote a deeper understanding of our world.

Professor Wooley will use the award during Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 to conduct research in analytic number theory associated with the Hardy-Littlewood method.
