Reading and hiking day

November 4 is MA 366 Reading and Hiking Day!

I have moved the suggested day for watching the Lesson 31
video and the due date for HWK 9 to Thursday, November 5.

I urge you to read on Nov 4, but not to put your feet up for
too long. Take a walk in the woods at Horticulture Park or the
Celery Bog. I find those two places to be magical for my health
and well-being.

Below is a gallery of plants and insects that I identified
this year in those parks. (I learned how to save the images
in Google Photos and click on the Google Lens button
to identify the specimens this year, a game changer!)

• A Polyphemus moth caterpillar and why I love them (my Polyphemus in upper left corner)

• A male Luna moth (Actias luna)

• Indian Pipes or Ghost plant (Monotropa uniflora), a parasitic plant, not a mushroom!

• A Jack in the Pulpit (Arisaema triphyllum) and sprouts the week before

• A Green dragon (Arisaema dracontium), the blossom , and the seeds later in the season

• Doll's Eyes (Actaea pachypoda)

• Swamp Rose-Mallow (Hibiscus grandiflorus)

• A Morel mushroom (Morchella esculenta), and it was delicious!

• Meadow garlic (Allium canadense)

• A wild female Muskovy duck in the Celery Bog -- very far from home!
