Our Mathematics graduates' positions can be categorized as academic, community service, government, insurance/finance, and the unavoidable "other." Some of our former students are teaching nearby (e.g. Attica) and some far away (e.g. West Africa). In community service, they can be found working with troubled adolescents and directing Athletes in Action with Campus Crusade. The military utilizes them as pilots and budget officers. In companies like Allstate, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and Bank of New England, they serve as auditors, actuarial analysts, marketing representatives, statistical analysts, and sales representatives. Among those in the "other" category are employers like AT&T, IBM, Northrup, Lockheed Missile and Space, and EDS, where our former students bear the descriptions of systems engineer, systems consultant, programmer, accounting assistant, and software engineer, just to mention a few.

Note that mathematicians working in industry are most likely seeking solutions to "real world" problems with the use of computers; computer scientists, on the other hand, are mainly concerned with computer systems. Students from our computer science math option may be involved with both!

Increasingly, mathematics majors are enhancing their education and augmenting their professional opportunities by attending graduate programs in mathematics, statistics, economics, psychology, and industrial engineering. Their broad education and analytical skills make them ideal candidates for management, law and medical schools. For a program that provides maximal flexibility, mathematics is the way to go!
