Undergraduates

We are welcoming applications to participate in our projects for spring 2025. Applications received by November 22 will be given priority.

To apply, log into OURConnect, and select 'Purdue Experimental Math Lab'. You may select up to three projects to apply to. Be sure to include a statement, one page or less, describing your interest in pursuing research in mathematics as well as a list of all mathematics courses you have taken, with grades in each. You may additionally include any other coursework or qualifications that you feel are pertinent.

If you are accepted and agree to participate in a project, you must sign up for the 3-credit course MA 49000PEML and must pledge that you are able to devote 10 hours of work per week to the project.

Graduate Students

Graduate mentors are an integral part of PXML. Mentors should be willing to meet with the undergraduate mentees once per week for an hour over the course of the semester. There may be more a few more team meetings early in the semester as everyone gets up to speed. Expertise is not required, just familiarity with the project and the mathematical maturity to make constructive comments to help the mentees move the project forward on a week-to-week basis. Graduate mentors are not expected to devote time to completing project tasks outside of these meetings.

If you are a graduate student in mathematics and are interested in mentoring a project, please fill out this survey.

Faculty

We welcome all mathematics faculty to submit project ideas on a continuing basis. If you have an idea for a project, or have questions about designing or running a project with PXML, please contact us at pxml@purdue.edu
