Zoom Policy

Lectures

All lectures will be held on zoom and will be recorded and put up on Panopto.

I recognize that many of you do not have control over your surroundings and hence may not wish to keep your videos on during class. However, it is my personal experience that is incredibly easy to zone out in class if your video is off. Furthermore, as the instructor, it is pretty hard to tell whether you are following if I cannot see your faces and I am talking to empty black boxes.

Keeping both these things in mind, it is not required that you keep your videos on during the lectures. However, I would be very grateful if those of you who can keep your videos on without undue difficulty do so.

To reduce static, I will expect everyone to keep their microphones on mute unless they want to say or ask something. Feel free to unmute yourself at any time and interrupt me if you have a question or comment.

Exams

Exams will be administered through gradescope and proctored via zoom. For exams, it is required that you keep their videos on. The exam will be recorded as well, but the recordings will not be kept unless an Academic Honesty issue arises out of that exam (see also the course policy on Academic Honesty).

While taking an exam, you may not have anything open on your computing devices except gradescope and zoom.

Exams must be written on paper using pen or pencil. You are not allowed to use a tablet to write the exam.

Finally, you may not make use of any other devices including your phones while you are writing the exam. You may use your phone only to take photos and only after you have finished writing the exam.
