Participation Policy

10% of your grade will be based on participation (e.g. how much you frequented office hours, how often you asked questions in class, how often you answered questions posed to the class…). If you intend to do the course asynchronously (i.e., you cannot attend the online classes when they occur) then this will be taken into account – you will not be disadvantaged for doing so.

There will be several concrete ways to ensure points for participation. These include:

  • Trying practice problems I suggest, and showing me your work. These will not be graded, and merely making a good faith attempt is enough.

  • Chiming in class sometimes. See also the Zoom policy.

  • Attending office hours from time to time, even when you do not have any questions. Hearing other people's questions can often help clarify confusion that you weren't even aware of.

I will assign participation grades weekly. Each week will be worth 2 points, so the points for one week will be dropped.
